Twin Cities Nonviolent Communication (TCNVC)

TCNVC is an evolving community of people using the process of NVC taught by Marshall Rosenberg to enhance our awareness of what is alive in us moment-to-moment, what gets in the way of our natural desire to give and receive, and what we and others can do to make life more wonderful.

In response to the dynamic nature of our community, the name TCNVC is changing to Great River NVC. Over the next year, you will notice changes in this website that reflect that evolution. Besides the reference to the Mississippi River that flows through the region tying us all together, the name reflects the evolving character of our relationships and our vision for the world as a place where the sheer power of the love within us flows forth spreading peace and harmony.

The NVC process as described in Marshall’s book “Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Compassion” is a way of connecting with others that offers a powerful, effective alternative to the violence and abuse that all too often takes place within our relationships. The world we live in is shaped by the quality of the relationships with ourselves and with others. NVC can transform and enrich our world with an atmosphere of non-judgmental acceptance, acknowledged values and the experience of fulfilled needs. NVC teaches people to speak in a way that does not trigger defensiveness and hostility. Instead, it uses a language from the heart that addresses feelings and needs, rather than a language from the head that destroys connection through hurtful analysis, diagnosis and criticism. By using NVC, you can learn how to transform potential conflicts into peaceful dialogs.

NVC strengthens our ability to inspire compassion in others and respond compassionately to others and ourselves. NVC guides us to reframe how we express ourselves, how we hear others and resolve conflicts by focusing our consciousness on what we are observing, feeling, needing, and requesting.
