REMEMBERING DUSTY . . .

[121] It is a sad day to hear of Dusty's passing. We have lost not only a great singer but someone who put passion into her music. She truly knew and felt the meaning of soul. Beneath the songs, her early stand against racism, apartheid, and intolerance to alternative lifestyles was ahead of her time then. I will continue to listen to Dusty until I can hear no more.

[122] I discovered Dusty's wonderful and enthralling voice at age fourteen in 1963, and she has never failed to lift and fascinate me from 1963 to 1999; from "I Only Want To Be With You" to her latest recordings of the 1990s. I must confess that I even had a Dusty Springfield scrap book back in those teenage years. I am certain that she is now at peace and forever that loving, gifted spirit and person we have glimpsed from afar through nearly forty years. Ave et Vale Dusty!

[123] I couldn't believe the news. I've always had so much respect for her. To have such talent taken away at such a relatively young age just seems so wasteful. The worst thing was that it was my birthday and it's certainly left a sad reminder of that day. I always cry to "I Close My Eyes And Count To Ten" and now there's even more of a reason to. I'll miss you, Dusty.

[124] Dusty was the epitome of blue-eyed soul. The likes of Mariah Carey can only hope to achieve that kind of emotion and raw passion.

[125]

There couldn't be any walls there,
she would have already torn them down.
There couldn't be any awards there,
the lady would have already won them.
There couldn't be any sterile radio/music industry there,
she would have been heard, signed and promoted properly.
She's transmitting alright . . . to you and me
on a most perfect frequency.
And if we listen carefully we can hear that angel . . . Dusty.
Love and light . . . Heaven . . . Stay Awhile . . . Learn to Say Goodbye . . .
to a girl named Mary, love and God bless us one and all . . .

[126] Another outstanding musical star of the '60s has left us, and Dusty's passing will leave a void which no one can replace. She was someone very special. I remember listening to her records in the '60s. I was a pre-teen then, and loved her music . . . We are all gonna miss you, Dust, as you represented something very honest, clean and forthright in pop, which is sadly missing now. R.I.P.

[128] I Close My Eyes And Count To Ten . . . I can't believe it. The first of my favorites to leave, Dusty. Deep thanks. You're mourned and you'll be remembered.

[129] I'm really saddened by the passing of Dusty. It was really a shock to have such an interesting person and fabulous voice silenced forever so quickly. I was just listening to Dusty in Memphis this past Monday, wondering how she was and hoping the world was treating her well. And the Tuesday evening I got the sad news of her passing. We will miss you Dusty . . . God Bless.

[133] What a wonderful site dedicated to Dusty Springfield. I used to be a DJ in West Texas and played her records all the time. My favorite was "Son of a Preacher Man" and "The Look of Love." I didn't know more about her personal and professional life until I found your site. I hope she knew about all this. It will be an honorable tribute to her memory.

[134] I was deeply saddened by Dusty's death. I really hoped she would be able to attend the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. At least she knew she was going to be inducted. It's too bad she won't be there - no one can sing the songs like she did. I am a professional singer and have been singing "Son of a Preacher Man" at my gigs this week - but there again, nobody could sing it like Dusty. I just don't know what to do with myself. God rest your soul, Dusty. The choir in heaven just got better.

[135] Dusty was the first woman I loved. I must have been around nine or ten. The Springfields' "Say I Won't Be There" was the first single I ever bought. She has been there all my life. I'm 46 now. I can't believe she's gone. I'm a shallow, cynical person at the best of times but I wept buckets all yesterday. May angels sing thee to thy rest.

[138] God bless you Dusty, and thank you for making my teenage years happy with your songs. You were one of a kind.

[139] Dusty has been a part of my life for 36 years, since I heard the Springfields' "Island of Dreams." I have been fortunate to meet her on several occasions and was backstage at the Albert Hall when she did the Anne Murray Show. I have many treasured photos of me with her, and of course all her records. She was a wonderful, generous person who always had time for her fans. I will miss her dearly, but her music eill live on. She will always be "close at hand." With love and sadness, but at least you are not in pain any more. Love and miss you always, Dave xxxxxx.

[140] Goodbye to a beautiful woman and a gorgeous voice. You weren't with us long enough, Dusty, and you can never be replaced. But your music will endure.
