= Town Board: Your “Sophomore” Supervisor, Russ Georgesen will not be running for reelection when his third term expires in March 2004. This provides an opportunity for any of you that live in Canosia Township to file for the election. The process is easy. Contact our Town Clerk, Sue Brooks after the first of the year. The exact dates will be posted at our official posting places. The cost is $2.00. The election will be March 9, 2004. The job involves running all aspects of Canosia Town Government, from determining a budget and recommending the tax levy, Cemetery, building and maintaining roads, to operation of the sewer district to Planning and Zoning. All this plus much, much, more. The Board meets the first Wednesday every month. [Editor’s note: This is the position I have had for the last nine years and I have enjoyed serving Canosia’s residents and representing and promoting the Township locally, regionally and nationally. It’s been a great experience. I will to talk to anyone who is considering running. Call Russ at 729-8108.]

= Planning Commission: Canosia needs to hire a secretary and appoint one member to the board at this time. If you are interested in serving, call anyone on the Town Board and let them know. Also, please let them know if you would be available at a later time. There are five member on the Planning Commission and five members on the Board of Adjustment.
= Fire Department: The Canosia Volunteer Fire Department is a very important aspect of Township Government. These are your neighbors that are trained to provide fire protection and emergency medical first responder functions to you. If you are interested in learning these functions, stop by the fire department during one of their meetings or training sessions the second, third or fourth Tuesday of the month or call Percy Johnson at 729-7790

= Historical Society: This is a group of individuals that keep track of the history of our Township. They document items and events associated with Canosia. If you are interested in or you have some of these treasures call Audrey Eaton at 729-8963.

= Newsletter: The 1995 Canosia Comprehensive Plan called for getting more information to the residents. The first newsletter was published November 1995, three were published in 1996 and quarterly publication began March 1997. This is the 31st Newsletter. The next Newsletter will be published when we have an found an individual to work with the current editor. It could be you!

Compensation: The township does provide expenses and/or some payments for your time. You won’t make a lot of money, but you will get a nice rich feeling from serving your community and the knowledge you gain will be with you the rest of your life!
