ANNUAL MEETING & ELECTION
Canosia Township will hold its Annual Meeting and Election on Tuesday, March 14, 2006. One supervisor will be elected to a three year term. Incumbent Louis Dubla has filed for the office. Voting will be from 12:00 noon to 8:00 PM in the Town Hall and the Annual Meeting will follow the election at 8:15 PM. This is an opportunity for the community to be updated on progress over the past year and to provide input for the upcoming year. Town reports will be available for residents. Town tax levies for 2007 are set by the townspeople at this meeting. At its February Budget Meeting the Board made the following levy recommendations (no overall increase):

General Revenue - $62,400
The General Revenue Fund includes Planning and Zoning, election costs, assessment charges, insurance, office supplies, Town Hall maintenance, cemetery, and Board expenses. The Board is recommending a decrease of $7,600 to offset increases in other levy amounts.

Road and Bridge - $100,000
Maintenance of Town roads - the Board is recommending no increase from last year’s levy.

Fire Department - $45,000
This fund includes equipment, fuel costs, fire hall maintenance, insurance, and training. The Board is recommending a $5,000 increase over last year to cover fuel cost, insurance, and equipment increases.

Fire Relief - $10,000
Fire Relief pays for the volunteer fire fighter pension fund. The Board is recommending an increase of $2,000 so benefits can eventually be increased.

Police Protection - $25,000
The Town contracts with the Sheriff’s Department for extra patrolling. The Board is recommending no increase over last year.

Fire Truck - $52,000
Dollars from this fund are used to make payments on the 2002 pumper truck purchase and to save for future vehicle replacements. The Board is recommending no increase.

Parks & Recreation - $8,000
Recreation expenses include the maintenance and improvements of baseball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, the ice rink, and the playground. The Board is not recommending an increase in the tax levy.

WLSSD - $1,800
This fund covers the Township fee to the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District. WLSSD has increased our fee as a district member so the Board is recommending a levy increase of $600.

The Board is recommending a total 2007 levy of $304,200, no increase over the current levy.

Refreshments will be served at the meeting - please join us!
