Within the
past year, ISD 700 and ISD 704 joined in partnership with the Duluth Area
Family Services Collaborative. The Collaborative uses federal and local
dollars to offer programs and services for families with children, age
birth to 18 years. These programs are offered free of charge through local
Family Resource Centers. There are four Family Resource Centers in Duluth
and the one combined center for Hermantown and Proctor. Deb Wright, the H & P Family
Resource Center Coordinator, has been busy working with local parent
groups and agency folks to plan Hermantown and Proctor services for 2003.
Some of the services available at the other Family Resource Centers
include: family classes, special events, parenting education, advocacy
services to assist families with challenging situations, parent warmline
phone consultation, community baby showers, free stores and parent
civic/leadership trainings. Programs can be offered in a variety of
locations in both communities and townships. Right now, it's very important
that Deb hears from a good representation of Hermantown and Proctor area
parents, on what they think the Family Resource Center could offer. Here's how you can have your
voice heard: Call Deb Wright at the
Hermantown Area Family Resource Center, 729-4541 or the Proctor Area
Community Center, 628-6294, and share your ideas. Invite Deb to come out to meet
with your parent group or community organization. Ask Deb about paid positions
for parents at the Family Resource Center. Participate in the Hermantown &
Proctor Family Resource Center Site Council. The Council will be made up
of interested parents and agency people who want to help advise the work
of the Center. This group will begin meeting in January. Hermantown Family Resource
Center: 5028 Miller Trunk Highway 729-4541 Proctor Area Community Center:
100 Pionk Drive, Proctor 628-6294 For more information on Family
