The Canosia
Township Recreational Area had a very busy year in 2007. We were the
beneficiary of a number of young men in need of Eagle Scout projects.
Ryan Rands
did a great job building us a volleyball court. He saved the township a
lot of money with contributions coming from Shelton’s Excavating,
Arrowhead Concrete, and United Piping. We have a first class facility
thanks to Ryan.
Eric Swenson
took on the task of getting the dugouts and ice rink painted and putting
new fencing on the front of them. He had a sprayer donated along with
brushes and rollers from Andren’s. The dugouts and ice rink look great
thanks to Eric’s work.
Eric
Schwerdt replaced the border around the playground. The old timbers were
rotting and getting dangerous. Eric had a Bobcat donated by Asphalt of
Duluth with G&T Construction willing to donate another skid steer. Eric
used timbers made of a composite material that should last many years.
The area is much safer thanks to Eric’s work.
The Canosia
Township Recreational Area wants to thank the Boy Scouts for their work
in improving our facility for everyone. Please make sure you thank these
young men.
The area was
as busy as usual. The Little League used the front field from May until
late July with approximately 200 children playing baseball. The back
baseball field received a lot of use after our improvements the previous
year.
The soccer
fields were busy from August until October with 300 children playing
soccer.
The tennis
courts seemed to be as busy as usual. We will need to repair the surface
of the courts in the near future. The Arrowhead Tennis Courts had
lessons in early August for six weeks. We also have one net’s gear
mechanism not working properly.
The ice
skating rink received a fresh coat of paint and had ice on it due to the
cold weather in early December. We may be in for a good season. We had a lot done last year thanks to the Boy Scouts named above. We may have some more projects coming our way this year. If you have any suggestions please call Mike Ellingson @ 729-7428.
