Recreation area Update for 2007

The Canosia Township Recreational Area had another busy year in 2006.

The front baseball field saw regular use from mid May until the end of July for Little League. It saw sporadic use after that for make up baseball games. We had approximately 200 children playing organized baseball throughout the year.

The back baseball field with its new sod saw a fair amount of use. It’s one of the only junior size sod covered infields in the area. The sod took well through the winter and looked good this spring.

The soccer fields were busy from late May until September. We also had about 300 children playing soccer from the age of 4 all the way up to the age of 17. The soccer fields suffered from the lack of moisture in the midsummer but seemed to survive the season. We’ll have to see how they come through the winter. The tennis courts seemed to be busy throughout the year. Arrowhead Tennis Courts had lessons there from early August for six continuous weeks on Thursdays.

The basketball court seemed to be in use fairly often for pick up basketball games.

The ice skating rink saw limited use as the weather didn’t cooperate very well for making good ice. Hopefully, this will change in 2007.

Various fields were used for organized flag football and for general pick up games. We didn’t see any major improvements for the year but had a few minor ones. We have a new alarm system in the concession stand. We added some ag-lime to both the back and front baseball fields. We also had the concession stand running for a good part of the year and installed fence cap on all the fences.
