The Canosia
Township Recreation Area has seen some improvements late last year and
this year.
Late last
year the infield of the back baseball field was dug up and we had sod
laid. The field came through the winter in great shape so it received a
fair amount of use this spring. It looks great and is one of few fields
in the area with a sod infield. The dugouts on the back field have also
had new metal roofs installed and should be painted this fall.
We also
installed 2000 feet of fence cap on both baseball field fences with
another 1000 feet remaining to be installed. This protects the fences,
the baseball players and dresses up the area.
We’d also
like to remind everyone that the warming shed for the skating rink will
be operational whenever ice is on the painted asphalt slab. We have
regular hours and would encourage everyone to use it this winter. The
hours are posted on the door or feel free to call Mike Ellingson at
729-7428 if you would like the warming shed opened up for special
occasions.
Most of the
work involves the help of volunteers and this year has been no
exception. Bill Peterson and John Lillie along with many others have
worked countless hours working on the back ballfield to restore it to
the condition it’s in today. Danny Johnson of G&T Construction and Larry
Shelton of Shelton Excavating have both donated materials and equipment.
Please thank these people when you see them as they are always giving
back to the community. Mike Ellingson, Recreation Director
