Boy Scouts' Eagle Projects
The Canosia Township Recreational Area has been
the beneficiary of a number of Boy Scouts fulfilling
their Eagle Scout Projects.
The first project was a new volleyball court by Ryan Rands. He relied on a number of contractors that are
always willing to help the township out. Through the
contributions of Shelton Excavating, Arrowhead
Concrete and United Piping the project came off
without a hitch. We had well over 40 people in
attendance helping with the project. Ryan built a first
class facility and saved the township thousands of
dollars doing it.

The second project was Eric Swensen’s. He took on
the task of getting the baseball dugouts and ice skating
rink painted. He had a paint sprayer along with rollers
and brushes donated by Andren’s. Eric also had a
number of volunteers making the project advance
smoothly. The dugouts all have a fresh coat of paint
on them thanks to Eric and the volunteers.
The third project belongs to Eric Schwerdt. Eric
decided to replace the rotting timbers around the
playground. The original timbers were seven years
old and needed replacing. The new timbers cost 25%
more than the treated timbers, but are made of a
composite material that should last a lifetime. Eric
had a bobcat donated by Asphalt of Duluth and we
also had G&T Construction’s bobcat or backhoe
available if needed. The project should be finished by
the end of August. Numerous volunteers helped make
the bull work of getting the timbers out easy.
There are rumors that two additional Eagle Scout
projects are going to be attempted this fall.
The Canosia Township Recreational Area owes a debt
of gratitude to the Boy Scouts that are willing to take
on these projects. They have received numerous
donations, they’ve organized the materials needed,
and they’ve recruited the volunteers.
The Boy Scouts have improved the quality of our
facility by taking on these projects. Please thank them
along with the contributors and the volunteers next
time you see them.
