The sewer area is comprised of residents on North Pike Lake Road’s south side and residents on the north side, from Pike Lane east to Midway; residents on East Pike Lake Road and Midway Road from the North Pike Lake Road south to Four Corners; residents on Lorendale/Nelsondale Road and Martin Road west to Midway; Birchway Road residents that intersects with Midway Road; all of the Commercial area at Four Corners including Sathers Drive and the Frontage Roads; West Pike Lake Road residents that are on the Lake and all residents south of the lake to Old Miller Trunk between W. Pike Lake Road and Midway Road. There are a few residents on North and West Pike Lake Road and Old Miller Trunk Hwy that are excluded due to excessive distance from the proposed sewer line.

Canosia and Grand Lake Town Boards met on February 3, 1998 and approved the final draft of a Joint Powers Agreement and governing By-Laws for the creation and authorization of a sewer collection system for an area around Pike Lake that includes the Four Corners Commercial area. The Joint Power Agreement is necessary because the properties effected are in two separate townships. The Minnesota State Statues requires this type of arrangement. The Joint Powers Board will be made of five elected supervisors from Grand Lake and Canosia Townships. A Public Hearing was held by the Pike Lake Alternative Wastewater Committee on a Facility Plan September 29, 1997, and it was approved by Grand Lake and Canosia Town Boards on September 30, 1997. This Facility Plan is currently being reviewed by Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) for placement on their Intended Use Plan (IUP). The committee is expecting to receive a favorable review.

The next step for is the residents of the sewer area show their support. A survey has been sent out by the committee asking: "Do You Agree That The Townships Should Proceed With The Sewer Collection System?" If you received the information flyer and survey post card survey form, you are scheduled to be a part of the sewer collection system. If you did not receive a survey form and know you are in the designated area, please call Russ Georgesen at the Health Department, 725-5250 or Pete Weidman at WLSSD, 722-3336 x218.

The cost of the sewer will depend on how much grant money is provided by the Wastewater Infrastructure Fund (WIF). Worst case is residents will need to pay of their portion ($13,000) of the sewer cost plus a monthly operation/maintenance/replacement fee of $20 and plumbing connection fee that could range from $500 to $1500. If the resident chooses to finance the $13,000 with a 4% State Loan, the monthly costs for 20 years would be $80. "Better Case": We get a $2 million grant, the cost would be reduced to $55/month. "Best Case": We get a $4 million grant, the cost would be $30/month. These numbers are different from the more conservative information on the flyer sent out in the survey. Have you sent yours in yet? The Joint Powers Board will evaluate the survey results and then proceed based on their interpretation of the results.
