Section 1. Public Nuisance is as an
animal
which does any of the following:
- Habitually worries, chases or molests other animals or persons
traveling peaceably in any public place.
- Unreasonably annoys, injures or endangers the safety, health,
comfort or repose of any person.
- Interferes with, obstructs or renders dangerous for passage any
public highway or right-of-way or waters used by the public.
- Chases vehicles, excessively make disturbing noises including, but
not limited to, continued and/or repeated howling, barking or other
sounds causing unreasonable annoyance or discomfort to neighbors or
others in close proximity to the premises where the animal is kept or is
found.
Section 3. Impoundment and Violation
Notice:
- Any dog or other animal which is a public nuisance shall be
impounded in an animal shelter and confined in a humane manner.
- Impounded dogs shall be kept for not fewer than five (5) working
days.
- If, by a registration tag or other means, the owner of an impounded
dog can be identified, the Animal Control Officer shall immediately upon
impoundment attempt to notify the owner orally or in writing.
- Any owner reclaiming an impounded dog shall pay any such fine as may
be set by resolution of the Town Board.
- Any dog not reclaimed by its owner within five (5) working days
shall become the property of the Township and shall be placed for
adoption in a suitable home or humanely euthanized. In the case of an
injured dog, the dog shall be taken to a veterinarian at the discretion
of the officer.
Section 4 Registration:
- Any person owning, keening, harboring or having custody or any dog
over four months of age within the municipality must obtain a
registration as herein provided.
- Written application not registration shall be made to the
Clerk/Administrator and shall include such information and documentation
as may be required by resolution of the Town Board.
- Application shall be made within thirty 30 days after obtaining a
dog. Upon a change of address of the dog’s owner, the Clerk must be
notified within fifteen (15) days.
- Upon acceptance or fee the Clerk/Administrator shall issue a durable
tag or identification collar, stamped with an identifying number.
- Fee for identification or tags shall be set by the Town Board.
