On January 14,2003 the St. Louis County Board amended Ordinance #41 - "Primary Structure Address Ordinance". The amended ordinance stipulates that all rural address signs installed after March 1,2003 shall be no less than 14" x 6" and no larger than 20" x 6", shall have address numbers displayed on two sides, and shall be placed perpendicular to the roadway.

While the amended ordinance does not require a complete change out of the entire County for all existing parallel one-sided signs, the St. Louis County 9-1-1 Communications Department is committed to assisting those townships and/or response agencies who wish to procure, distribute and/or install perpendicular two-sided signs. To that end, we will provide assistance by working with the township or response agency in determining which address number signs to order.

To secure the most favorable pricing, signs may be purchased through our department's current sign vendor or a vendor of the township or agency's choice. Individual distribution and installation of signs for a complete change out in a township or response agency's area will be the responsibility of that township or agency.

The St. Louis County 9-1-1 Communications Department is pleased with the County Board's decision to provide for a more visible rural address sign. We look forward to assisting any township or agency in planning or implementing a complete change out.
