Its not a myth. While the nation continues to lose manufacturing
and technology jobs, it is replacing them with jobs that pay
less, the Economic Policy Institute says.
Sectors of the economy that are gaining the most jobs pay
an average of $14.65 an hour - 13.4 percent less than sectors
that are losing jobs, according to an analysis of Bureau of
Labor Statistics figures.
The loss in quality jobs over the past two years is in
startling contrast to what was happening before President
George W. Bush took office. In that two year period, sectors
that were gaining jobs paid $18.32 an hour - 12.3 percent
more than sectors that were losing jobs.
That means the fastest-growing jobs now pay 20 percent less
than they did only three years ago, a drop of $3.67 an hour.
The EPI analysis looks at wages in the 20 job categories that
are gaining the most jobs and losing the most jobs.
