Only You Know

Only you know - you know - what it is up to you to decide
Only you know - you know - between learning and turning aside

Only you know - you know - when you hide and when you pretend
Only you know - you know - you've got but only one life to spend

Nobody's gonna tell you - how to make a life complete
Nobody's gonna sell you - words on a paper sheet

Only you know - you know - what you make up your mind to do
Only you know - you know - when the spirit moves in you

Nobody's gonna lead you to - a mountain top far away
Nobody's gonna read to you - magic words you have to say

Only you know - you know - what you make up your mind to do
Only you know - you know - when the spirit moves in you

When the spirit moves in you

Our Best Days

Our best days - how we hold on to them faithfully
To the stories we are told - to the places we are from
Our best days - all that matters is you share them with me
I want you to believe - our best days are yet to come

Chorus:
I want you to believe - our best days are yet to come
I want you to believe - our best days

You have the answer - you have new eyes to see
Life was not so simple in the past
Looking back in black and white, we color what should be
Next frame not the same one as the last

(Chorus)

Our best days - how we hold on to them faithfully
To the stories we are told
- to the places we are from
Our best days - all that matters is you share them with me

(Chorus)

Sliver

Under my skin is a sliver - a sting from a thing I regret
What a thin reason to live for - I haven't forgotten it yet

Made a new home on a sliver - at the end of a far away shore
Flame became bigger and bigger - a battle turned into a war

We would show everybody what we mean
Every man on the planet will see
We would show everybody what we mean
With a stand for the land of the free - The free

We are confined to a sliver - we are keeping ahead of the curve
Never the time to consider - whose god we choose so serve

Guiding my feet is a sliver - on the side of a basketball shoe
Goes to the lowest bidder - to deliver this pair for you

We would show everybody what we mean
Ain't no argument at all
We would show everybody what we mean
With those domino dots on a wall - The wall

Into the ground goes a sliver - we will speculate over again
Sacrifice we had to give for - with fifty-eight thousand men

What a Prayer Will Do

It takes some time to heal - this hurt inside of you
But I know the way you must feel - and what a prayer will do -

Reach through the air with your hands - let the silence speak to you
There's an angel who understands - what a prayer will do

If we would forgive one another - God will forgive us as we pray:
Lead us not through temptation - Provide for us every day
Every day

The dark gives way to the light - we live by all that's true
Remember with me tonight - what a prayer will do -
What a prayer will do

Easy Answers

In a language hexadecimal - it is meaningless to see
The questions infinitesimal - for you - and me

I thought - you said - I don't know how it got in my head
You seemed to say there was a way that we could agree
You said - I thought - it is the only chance that we've got
For what is wrong inside this picture we both can see

We want to have easy answers - from the same old happy talk show
Those easy answers - the more we hear - the less we know

Don't ask - for so much - or we will never be back in touch
We can get it , or just let it slip from our mind
For so much - Don't ask - if you would measure up to the task
It all depends on the shortest distance that we can find

We're finding those easy answers - to come from a wishing well
Those easy answers - the more we buy - the harder they sell

So what - who cares - the news is creeping in everywhere
When we've too much information, we'll overload
Who cares - so what - my eyes are open and now they're shut
Oh, what a simple explanation in secret code

You know that it's easy answers - never quite what they seem
Those easy answers - put us to sleep - but never to dream

They put us to sleep - but never to dream

These Things Remain

I could talk - to anyone in the world, but never did I talk to Jesus
Companion - who knew of my pain
People show - for a moment or so, and they go just as they please
Take them away - these things remain

I could read - any book in the world, but never did I read the Bible
A riddle - I couldn't explain
Shelf on shelf - I would read for myself, they go by in single file
Take them away - these things remain

Open up to wisdom - in the fear of the Lord
Open up to kindness - in its own reward

I could hold - any thought in the world, but never did I praise my Father
In heaven - with a simple refrain
Other words - I have already heard - they have all been said before
Take them away - these things remain

Open up to kindness - in the fear of the Lord
Open up to wisdom - in its own reward

I could hold - any thought in the world, but never did I praise my Father
I heaven - with a simple refrain
Other words - I have already heard - they have all been said before
Take them away - these things remain
Take them away - these things remain

I Feel Like a Song

I've heard that love makes a choice
I know it chose to grow in you and me
Like a tune that you've heard - it searched for my voice
Without a song, where would I be?

Chorus:
And I feel like - I feel like a song
Hallelujah for the music, this is where I belong
Let me be brave - I know I'll be strong
How could I be afraid? - I feel like a song

I've heard that love never ends
All that we learn is how to make it start
On the infinite wisdom of God I depend
It's his love that lives in my heart

(Chorus)

I've heard that love must be blind
To see nothing but good in everyone
It is really the only thing - we leave behind
The only song we've ever sung

(Chorus)

The Family Knows

There'll be room - room in the family when I have no place to go
There'll be hope - hope for tomorrow when my faith is running low
There'll be peace - peace in the valley when I'm searching for a home
The Family Grows - The family knows - that I'm searching for a home

There'll be room - room at the table, you'll be like my next of kin
There'll be hope - hope for a loser when you know you're gonna win
There'll be peace - peace with my brother - and no matter where you've been
The Family Grows - the family knows it don't matter where you've been

I won't accuse you - I won't cast a stone
You'll see this family will take care of its own

When I had - had a couple fishes - and I had a loaf of bread
Then I gave - gave them to Jesus, and my precious Savior said,
"No one here goes away hungry, I'll see everyone is fed"
The Family Grows - the family knows everybody will be fed

Would It Be a Secret

When I needed somewhere to hide - I tried to get away with my pride
Would it be a secret - would it be a lie?

What a tangled web that we weave - when we first practice to deceive
Would it be a secret - that we could deny?

My story will have a spin - Truth would rather travel slow
My cover up will now begin - Nobody will ever know

When I heard the rooster three times - Lord knows I broke down and cried
Would it be a secret - would it be a lie

My story will take them in - Truth would rather travel slow
My cover up goes 'round again - Nobody will ever know

When I heard the rooster three times - Lord knows I broke down and cried
Would it be a secret - would it be a lie
Would it be a secret - would it be a lie

You have a gift

When I was only a boy, I surely knew I would find
A present beneath the Christmas tree
My father knew I'd waited for the longest time
He smiled, and at last he said to me,

Chorus:
You have a gift - you must know your father loves you
More than you - can believe
And as you live - you know he thinks the whole world of you
Let’s have grace – and receive

My dad said, Son it has always been for you to claim
By our Creator we are endowed
So open up that package that bears your name
Make the most of it and make me proud

(Chorus)

Don't say another word - it's what I want you to take
You can pass it on when it's your turn
This precious gift is freedom, you must not forsake
The lesson every father's son must learn

(Chorus)

You shouldn't have - You shouldn't have - it is all more than I deserve
You shouldn't have - You shouldn't have - son, someday this all will be yours

You have a gift - you must know your father loves you

Oh, Pa

When all the crops were planted - my brother up and went
For takin' out all of his share and cashing it in
He wandered through Nevada - and squandered every cent
No one but a fool would ever take him in again

Chorus:
Oh, Pa - I heard him say he'd sleep out in the barn
That son of yours you thought would never return
Lay down the law - he's ashamed to come back to the farm
It seems to me that some folks never will learn

Now, all these years I've been here - I was proud to do the chores
Because you know how much I love working the land
But he must have thought that this world could offer something more
Don't you come and ask me to even shake his hand

(Chorus)

I've never had to gamble - never had to spread wild oats
I tried to be the best that I could be for you
But you keep doing these things - and it really gets my goat
When you call all the neighbors - to come to a barbecue

(Chorus)

You Keep Running

You keep running your campaign - gotta get on that plane
Tell the people you feel their pain - you keep running

And no matter where you go - the only thing that you know
Is how to star in that show - that you keep running

You've got a handshake and a smile and a wave
You know the possibilities
You've got a sound bite like the one that you gave
At your last photo opportunity

You keep running like a maniac - with baggage you'll never unpack
Never have the time to look back - you keep running

Your opponent's coming 'round - accusations abound
You're gonna have to cut 'em all down - so you keep running

You're just a victim of decisions you made
So you could stay in the game
But you're addicted and you might be afraid
That you've got no one left to blame

You keep running in this race - gotta pick up a little more space
You might need it just in case - you keep running

And momentum's what you've got - People gonna say you're hot
With that same television spot - you keep running
You keep running - you keep running

From My Heart to Yours

If I live to see all of your dreams to come true
I would never want any more
While we are apart - many more dreams go with you
Let me send them all - from my heart to yours

You will be for me one of God's greatest blessings
Haven't I ever told you before
Keep your hope alive, keep your spirit expressing
What you've always known - from my heart to yours

There will be promises and laughter
There will be happily ever after
Farewell - Farewell

Sail on through the night - carry on with your mission
To the beacon that shines from the shore
I will have my hope - and you'll have your vision
Let me shine my love - from my heart to yours

Let me shine my love - from my heart to yours
